Demelain's Door

Hey folks, this is my piece of artwork for Reaper's Gale, book 7 of Malazan. This was great fun to make, and I think this is the best Malazan artpiece I've made thus far. This depicts the moments before a party of characters walks through the gate to the first Warren. Not much of this environment is described on the pages, and therefore that gave me a bit more wiggle room to play with dastardly lighting. This is not so much a direct transcription of the descriptions in the text but rather a more thematic one, for reasons that may be clearer if you've read the book.

(If you're wondering why the thumbnail looks a little different, it's because it's flipped on the horizontal. The composition of the regular version doesn't read as well on a square aspect ratio)
